Vote to Re-elect Jeanne Morris
My years as school board member are years of proven success which are reflected in the daily lives of our students. Collectively we have worked over the years to brand an educational system, second to none. I’m proud of the past and focused on the future.
I’m ready to work for you and are interested in your comments. How can the members of the school board help you?

I have been a full time Realtor in the Seminole County area since 1982 and because of our school system here it is easy to sell homes in the area. When working with Buyers from the out of town I send them to the Public School website and Seminole County wins hands down.
Myself as a Seminole County residence I am very proud of our school system and as a Realtor I promote our school system.
Thank you for the education that you have allowed our children to receive. I give our county a “Thumbs Up”!

Sharon, thanks! We have worked hard to provide the educational opportunities that sets Seminole County apart from our neighbors. I hope our voters will give me a “Thumbs Up”.

I received my sample ballot today and am contacting all candidates in order to determine who will receive my vote. I am retired from the Army, graduated in 75 from Lyman H.S., have two children who graduated from Lyman, as well as my wife. My grandson currently attends school in Seminole County in the 5th grade, and I have a personal interest in the quality of our schools. I would like to know why I should vote for you. The content of your web site is all fine and dandy, but is insufficient, in my opinion, in order to make an informed decision. I am the Agent for the largest independent Veterans organization west of the Mississippi with 950 members, and I take my vote very seriously, as do my fellow members. Please reply.

Thanks for your question. Thanks also for your service to our country. My children’s grandfather was killed in Korea and veterans hold a special place of honor in our family. In regard to your question about why should you vote for me, I have served on the school board for 5 terms and my leadership has helped guide our district to become the envy of other districts in Florida and the nation. 98% of our schools are A or B schools and the 1 C rated school was just 1 point short of being a B. All our high schools are rated by Newsweek in the top 3% of all the high schools in the United Stated. All of these successes occurred even with the district losing over $90 million in funding over the last two years. It will take leaders who have made the tough decisions and have the knowledge to keep our schools successful in the future. I am focused on providing programs that will prepare our students for success in future careers as well as college success. Thanks for your message.

Just one question. Do you support the tax increase? Just a simple yes or no would be great. Thanks

Jeanne,
As 21 year residents of Seminole County , we are proud of our school system. Just 2 questions for you:
What’s your position on,
1.FCAT
2. Race for the top funds and teacher merit pay.
Thanks,

The FCAT was designed to be a diagnostic test for students, not to grade schools or teachers. I believe in accountability but it needs to be validly constructed and used for the reasons it was designed. Race to the Top funds are only an idea for Florida right now. If Florida gets funding, I hope that the School Board, working with all stakeholders, will be able to work out an acceptable plan. The funding would help pay for unfunded federal and state mandates. Teacher merit pay is coming in one form or another. I believe it should be based on multiple factors, not just the FCAT test results.

Mrs. Morris, What do think of the fact that Seminole County teachers have not received a raise these last few years?

Hello,
I haven’t seen anyone running in this election that has mentioned the lack of help the schools give to children with learning disabilities. I have been struggling with my son’s school since he was diagnosed with epilepsy. They have no knowledge or desire to help my child and in fact worse, his teacher last year gave up on him after 4 weeks of school and noted in his file he will not be promoted this year and sure enough he did not, she also stated he asks for help too much so she just ignores him. The guidance counselor nor the principal would help me with this problem and says Seminole County does not acknowledge children with learning disabilities. I contacted Dr. Vogel and he blew me off also, so my question is How do you feel about the current situation regarding children with learning disabilities? Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jennifer P.

Jennifer, I had a similar problem with my son. He has a learning disability and I literally had to beg for 5 years for testing. The school would “screen” him instead of testing.
I ran into the same road blocks and deaf ear.
I guess the voters have spoken and this is why Ms. Morris only received 20% of the vote last night.
